Background of Goodwin

Goodwin is Canberra’s largest and oldest provider of aged care. We have over 150 independent living units, 200 aged care beds and more than 150 clients who receive our care in their own homes.

Our independent living units and aged care beds are located at Goodwin’s Villages at Ainslie, Farrer and Monash.

We also have new residential aged care facilities under development which will provide a further 152 aged care beds plus an additional 319 independent living units at our villages over the next five years.

We are a registered charity and are a Public Benevolent Institution. Goodwin is a community based organisation and is not affiliated with any other organisation, church or institution. We only operate in the ACT and are a specialist aged care provider – this is the only service that we provide. To receive our services a person must be at least 60 years of age.

Our formal structure is that of a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and we are governed by Corporations Law and must comply with all of the requirements imposed by ASIC. We have members, rather than shareholders, which means that we cannot distribute any surpluses that we may make to anyone. Any surpluses generated must be reapplied to further the objectives of the organisation.

Goodwin has an annual turnover of around $14m and has in excess of $70m of assets under management. We have a skills based Board of Directors with Directors having specialized backgrounds from within the following fields:

• accommodation for the aged
• aged care
• asset management
• property development
• social policy
• law
• accountancy
• corporate finance

It has a highly skilled senior management team and over 300 employees who provide care and support to our residents/clients.
